University Admissions in Pakistan 2026 – Full Schedule, Deadlines & Entry Test Guide
Complete guide to Pakistani university admissions 2026 — Spring & Fall schedules, NUST NET, ECAT, MDCAT, LUMS, HEC deadlines, and tips for Matric/FSc students applying this year.
By Sana Malik, Education Policy & Student Affairs Writer — March 14, 2026
Every year, approximately 45,000 students sit the ECAT alone — competing for roughly 3,000 available seats in Punjab's public engineering institutions. Vuedu That ratio — 15 applicants for every single seat — is a number most students don't encounter until after they've already missed a deadline.
March is when the confusion peaks. FSc Part-II results are weeks away. Spring intake is closing at some universities. Fall applications are opening at others. Entry test registrations are running on their own separate timelines entirely. And most guides online give you last year's dates recycled as if nothing changed.
This guide gives you the actual 2026 schedules — confirmed where possible, clearly flagged as tentative where not — for the universities and tests that matter most.

Spring vs Fall Admissions: The Calendar You Need to Understand First
Pakistani universities operate on two intake windows. Most students only know about one.
Fall admissions — the primary intake — open from July or the first week of August and close by end of August. Spring admissions run from January through May. Top Universities The key difference is volume: Fall is where the vast majority of seats are available, especially at public universities. Spring is smaller, primarily used by private universities and for select postgraduate programs.
Virtual University, for example, offers admissions twice yearly — Spring in February/March and Fall in August/September. British Council Most public universities like NUST, UET, PU, and COMSATS admit only once annually in the Fall cycle. Applying in the wrong window wastes your application fee and, more dangerously, your time.
Rule of thumb: If you're a fresh Matric or FSc graduate targeting public universities, your window is Fall 2026. If you're a gap-year student or targeting a private institution with rolling admissions, Spring may be viable — but confirm with the specific university first.

Important: MDCAT is a once-a-year test. Missing it — by even one day of late registration — means waiting a full calendar year. Register the moment the portal opens. No exceptions.
NUST NET 2026: The Most Important Entry Test Schedule in Pakistan
NUST offers four NET series for 2026 admissions. The test consists of 200 MCQs to be completed in 180 minutes, with no negative marking. Comsats That last detail — no negative marking — is strategically significant and worth remembering when we compare it to ECAT below.
NUST NET 2026 Series Overview
| Series | Registration Deadline | Test Dates | Venues |
|---|---|---|---|
| NET-1 | November 21, 2025 | December 2025 | Islamabad (CBT) |
| NET-2 | January 2026 | February–March 2026 | Islamabad, Quetta (CBT); Karachi, Gilgit (PBT) |
| NET-3 | February 2026 | March–April 2026 | All venues |
| NET-4 | April 2026 | April–June 2026 | All venues |
NUST NET Paper-based tests are also conducted in July 2026 at Karachi (July 19–21) and Gilgit (July 21–22). Computer-based tests run from June 24, 2026 onwards at the Islamabad campus. NUST
NET venues are: Islamabad H-12 Campus (CBT), Karachi DHA City (PBT), Quetta NUST Balochistan Campus (CBT), and Gilgit APS Jutial (PBT). Maqsad
NUST Aggregate Formula
| Component | Weight |
|---|---|
| Matric / O-Levels | 10% |
| FSc / A-Levels | 40% |
| NET Score | 50% |
The bulk of applicants compete on NET-based merit. Students applying through ACT/SAT must file separate applications and appear on distinct merit lists from NET candidates. Comsats
Eligibility: Minimum 60% aggregate marks in both SSC and HSSC are required. O/A-Level students must obtain IBCC equivalence certificates — contact IBCC early, as processing takes time. NUST

ECAT 2026: The Gateway to Punjab's Engineering Universities
UET Lahore has announced ECAT 2026 Phase I as a computer-based test running March 30 to April 3, 2026, at multiple centers across Punjab, with results announced on April 17, 2026. Scimago IR
ECAT is not just UET's test — it is accepted across multiple public and private engineering universities in Punjab simultaneously. One registration, multiple universities. That makes it strategically different from NET, which applies only to NUST.
ECAT 2026 Key Facts
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Phase I Test Dates | March 30 – April 3, 2026 |
| Phase I Results | April 17, 2026 |
| Format | 100 MCQs, 400 total marks, 100 minutes |
| Negative Marking | Yes — -1 mark per wrong answer |
| Registration Fee | ~Rs. 2,500 (HBL branches) |
| Minimum Eligibility | 60% in FSc Pre-Engineering |
Source: ECAT is conducted by UET Lahore. The test covers Mathematics (30 MCQs), Physics (30 MCQs), Chemistry (30 MCQs), and English (10 MCQs), with 4 marks per correct answer and -1 for incorrect answers. Vuedu
The critical difference from NET: ECAT penalises wrong answers. NET does not. Students who switch between preparing for both tests must adjust their test-taking strategy accordingly — educated guessing is fine on NET, it is costly on ECAT.
Universities accepting ECAT include: UET Lahore, UET Taxila, UET Faisalabad, BZU Multan, NFC IEFR, and multiple private engineering colleges in Punjab.
HEC USAT and NTS-NAT: The Tests Most Students Forget to Register For
These two tests sit in the blind spot of most admissions guides. They are not as famous as NET or ECAT — but they unlock access to dozens of universities that neither of those tests cover.
HEC USAT (Undergraduate Studies Admission Test)
HEC's Test Calendar 2026 confirms the USAT (Undergraduate Studies Admission Test) is conducted by the Education Testing Council under the Higher Education Commission. VACE Global It is used for general undergraduate admissions at HEC-affiliated universities and is an alternative to NTS-NAT for institutions that accept it.
Accepted at: COMSATS (alongside NTS-NAT), several federal universities, and scholarship programs.
NTS-NAT (National Aptitude Test)
NTS conducts multiple NAT test dates throughout the year. It is accepted at COMSATS, IST, IIUI, and dozens of other public and private universities.
Key point: NAT is offered in subject-specific streams. NAT-IE is for engineering, NAT-ICS for computing, NAT-I for general. Registering for the wrong stream means your score may not be accepted by your target university. Double-check before you register.
| Test | Frequency | Fee (PKR) | Key Universities Accepting |
|---|---|---|---|
| NTS-NAT | Multiple dates monthly | 500–1,000 | COMSATS, IIUI, IST, many others |
| HEC USAT | Twice yearly | ~500 | Federal universities, HEC programs |
| NTS GAT General | Multiple dates | ~1,500 | Graduate admissions (MS/MPhil) |

Document Checklist: What to Prepare Before Any Application Opens
This is the section that saves people. Every year, students are rejected from merit lists — not because of marks, but because a document was missing, expired, or wrong.
| Document | Required For | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Matric DMC (Original + Copies) | All universities | Board-verified copy preferred |
| FSc Part-I/II DMC | All universities | Part-I DMC accepted for early applications |
| CNIC / Form-B / NICOP | All entry test registrations | Expired CNIC = rejected application |
| Passport-size photos (plain background) | All entry tests + applications | White or light blue background — check each portal |
| IBCC Equivalence Certificate | O/A-Level students only | Apply to IBCC well in advance — 3–4 week processing time |
| Domicile Certificate | Public universities (quota) | Required for provincial and district quota seats |
| Character Certificate | Most universities | Issued by Principal of previous institution |
O/A-Level students must obtain IBCC equivalence certificates well in advance. IBCC processing takes time, and without it, neither NET registration nor university application can be completed. NUST
One practical scenario: A student from Lahore with A-Levels who wants to sit NUST NET-3 in April needs: an IBCC equivalence certificate (minimum 3 weeks to process), CNIC or Form-B, and recent passport photos. If the IBCC application goes in late February, the March NET series will likely be missed. Start now.
Why This Matters: The Deadline Gap Nobody Talks About
Pakistan's university admission system has a structural problem that no ranking article will tell you about.
There is no single, government-maintained admissions portal aggregating all deadlines in one place. HEC maintains a test calendar for its own tests — the HEC Test Calendar 2026 covers USAT, HAT, LAT, and GAT through December 2026 VACE Global — but it does not centralise university application deadlines. Every institution runs its own portal, on its own timeline, with its own documentation requirements.
What this means practically: a student targeting NUST, UET, and COMSATS simultaneously must track three separate portals, three different entry tests, three different document requirements, and three different merit list schedules — all while studying for FSc exams.
The students who get in are not always the ones with the highest marks. They are the ones who applied correctly, on time, to multiple institutions, with complete documentation. The student with 85% FSc who missed the NUST NET-2 registration deadline by one day has one fewer shot at NUST than the student with 78% who registered for all four series.
Systems literacy — knowing the deadlines — is as important as academic performance.
The Bottom Line
If your FSc results are pending: You can still register for NUST NET-3 and NET-4. You can apply for ECAT Phase I now. You can submit Fall applications at most public universities once results are in. Do not wait for your final marksheet to start the process.
If you missed LUMS UG this cycle: Graduate programs are still open until April 14. Next UG cycle starts October 2026 — mark it, prepare the LCAT, and go.
If you're applying for medicine: MDCAT is October 26, 2026. Registration will likely open in July. Preparation needs to start now — six months of prep for one shot at a seat.
The one thing to do today: Create a spreadsheet with every university you're applying to, its portal URL, its entry test, and its application deadline. Check each portal directly — not via a third-party site. Set calendar reminders for 2 weeks before each deadline.
Pakistan's admissions in 2026 are more competitive than ever. The students who navigate this process well are not the cleverest — they're the most organised.
